Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, which traditionally reminds us of our sins, but it also should remind us that Jesus paid the debt for those sins. Therefore Ash Wednesday does indeed begin a solemn journey, but it does not end on Good Friday, as tradition may have it. Rather, that journey actually culminates on Easter morning.

We might be tempted to argue with people who claim Christians are hypocritical, judgmental, self-righteous, arrogant, unforgiving, and disrespectful, claiming those associations are not fair. Instead we should remember that if God's grace were truly fair, everyone would end up in Hell. So we thank God for His amazing grace, and we spread that good news to everyone.

This Thanksgiving we are reminded that God created the Earth and everything in it for us, but everything we have belongs to him. On our own we are unholy and without Christ's blood cleansing us, we would be destroyed when we stand before God. So it is out of thanks that we make offerings of the time, talents, and treasures that God has given to us.
